Women's power in mergers and acquisitions: the lawyers who will leave their mark in 2025

The mergers and acquisitions market in Spain continues to advance towards more diverse leadership models.

The evolution of women's leadership in the Spanish mergers and acquisitions market reflects a structural change in the way teams advising on large transactions are formed. Although the sector has traditionally been dominated by male profiles, more and more female lawyers are occupying key positions in corporate advisory, leading complex negotiations and participating in high-value strategic mandates.

The analysis conducted by TTR Data, which identifies the main operators in the Spanish market, confirms this trend: 38 professionals —including partners and associates— have stood out in 2025 for their participation in significant transactions, consolidating the role of women in the transactional space. The inclusion, for the first time, of a specific ranking of the "emerging stars" also reflects the progress of a new generation of women lawyers who are beginning to assume strategic responsibilities in the market.

However, this progress has not been without challenges. Despite the increase in the number of women in leadership positions, the sector still faces structural barriers and invisible expectations that influence the perception of leadership. Factors such as the unpredictability of work in large transactions or stereotypes about who naturally fits into decision-making positions continue to condition the pace of change. Nevertheless, the evolution of the market points to an increasingly evident reality: women's leadership in mergers and acquisitions is no longer an exception, but has become a structural element within teams leading the most complex transactions.

In this context, ECIJA positions itself as one of the firms that actively promotes female talent in strategic areas such as corporate law and mergers and acquisitions, integrating diverse profiles into teams that advise on highly complex transactions. The firm has developed a model based on professional merit, specialization, and execution capability, where leadership is built on experience, strategic vision, and real contribution to the business.

This approach responds to a clear conviction: diversity in teams not only improves representation, but also strengthens the quality of advice and the ability to manage complex negotiations in high-pressure environments. The combination of profiles, experiences, and leadership styles contributes to more robust decision-making and more effective management of transactional processes.

For ECIJA, the growth of women's leadership in mergers and acquisitions is part of a broader transformation of the legal sector, where professional excellence is measured by strategic capability, technical rigor, and execution in high-impact transactions. In this scenario, the advancement of women in major transactions is not a temporary trend, but a reflection of how the legal market is evolving towards more competitive and diverse models that are better prepared to tackle the challenges of the global economy.
